Location & GPS Tracking
Overview
Jeero can track the location of your field crews while they work. This powers three things: a live map of where every crew member is right now, accurate mileage calculations based on real driving distances, and location stamps on job-site photos. You stay in full control of how much tracking happens – including turning it off entirely.
Plan availability: GPS tracking – including the Crew Locations map and the mobile tracking modes – is included on the Team plans (and Enterprise). Solo plans do not include GPS tracking, since solo operators have no crew to track. See Billing & Plans for what each plan includes.
GPS Tracking Modes
You choose how Jeero tracks location in your company settings (see Company Setup). There are three modes:
- Continuous – Jeero records the crew member’s location periodically throughout their shift, from clock in to clock out. This builds a full travel trail and produces the most accurate mileage figures.
- Manual – Jeero records location only at key moments, such as clocking in or out and starting or finishing a job. This captures essential location stamps without continuous tracking.
- Disabled – No location is recorded at all.
Owners and managers can change the tracking mode at any time from company settings.
Privacy note: Tracking only happens while a crew member is on the clock in the mobile app, and only in the mode you have selected. Choose the mode that fits your team’s needs and your local privacy expectations.
How Tracking Works on the Mobile App
Location tracking runs through the Jeero mobile app on each crew member’s phone. The first time tracking is needed, the app asks the crew member to grant location permission.
In continuous mode, the app records the crew member’s position in the background while they are clocked in – even if the phone is locked or the app is not open. The phone shows a small indicator letting the team member know tracking is active. Tracking stops automatically when they clock out.
In manual mode, the app records a single location stamp at important moments rather than tracking continuously.
The Crew Locations Map
Owners and managers get a live Crew Locations map showing where your field crew is right now. Each crew member (crew leads and crew members with a recent location in the last 24 hours) appears as a marker on the map, along with:
- Their name and role.
- How long ago their location was last updated.
- Whether they are currently clocked in or out.
The map refreshes automatically every minute, and you can use the Refresh button to pull the latest positions on demand. After each refresh the map zooms and pans so every crew member on the map is visible at once. You can also click any crew member in the list to fly the map straight to their location. The Crew Locations map is available on both the web dashboard and the mobile management app.
Tip: Check the Crew Locations map when a client calls asking for an arrival time – you can see at a glance whether the crew is already on their way.
Location and Mileage
When continuous tracking is on, Jeero uses the recorded travel trail to calculate exactly how far a crew drove to each job. This produces the most accurate mileage records for your tax and reimbursement reporting. See Mileage Tracking for details on how those distances are captured and reported.
Location on Job Photos
Jeero stamps job-site photos with the location where they were taken. If you enable photo geofencing in your company settings, you will be notified when a photo is taken away from the job site or without location information – helping you confirm that work was documented on site. The geofence settings live in Company Setup, and the owner alerts are covered in Notifications & Alerts.
