What Route Optimization Does

Route optimization finds the most efficient driving order for a crew’s jobs on a given day. Instead of your crews zigzagging across town, Jeero calculates the shortest path that visits every job site, saving fuel, reducing drive time, and fitting more jobs into the day.

How It Works

By default, Jeero uses your company address as the starting and ending point for every route. From there, it calculates the best sequence to visit each job site assigned to a crew for that day. The result is a route that minimizes total travel time while respecting any jobs that have a locked start time.

You can also set a different start or end address for an individual route — useful when a crew begins the day somewhere other than the office, or finishes at a yard or supplier instead of returning to base. If you only change the start point, the route returns there at the end of the day.

Important: Set your company address in Settings before building routes. It’s used as the default departure and return point. A route also needs at least one job with a geocoded address before it can be built.

Building and Optimizing Routes

You can build a route in two places:

  • From the dashboard – Each crew card has an Optimize button (it reads Re-optimize once a route already exists). Click it to calculate the best job order for that crew on that day.
  • From the Routes page – Pick a crew and a date, then click Build route (or Rebuild route if one already exists). This page gives you the full timeline, map, and address controls.

Optimization runs per crew, per day, so each team gets the most efficient path for its own set of jobs. If you add or remove jobs after building, the route is marked stale and you can rebuild it to bring it up to date.

When a crew has only one job, there’s nothing to optimize — Jeero simply calculates the travel time to and from that stop. The button reads Calculate travel in that case.

Note: Each plan includes a daily limit on how many routes you can build. Rebuilding after a manual reorder or recalculating a single-stop route doesn’t count against that limit. If you reach the limit, you’ll see a message and can try again the next day or upgrade your plan.

Route Status Indicators

A crew’s route shows one of these indicators:

  • Optimized – The jobs are in the most efficient order Jeero calculated.
  • Stale – Jobs have been added, removed, or rescheduled since the route was last built. Rebuild to bring it up to date.
  • Manually ordered – The job order was rearranged by hand using drag-and-drop.

These badges appear on crew dashboard cards and on the Routes page so you can tell at a glance whether a route needs attention.

Locked Start Times

If a job has a locked start time (for example, a client who can only be seen at 2:00 PM), Jeero works it into the order at the right point instead of treating it like any other stop. If the calculated arrival can’t realistically meet a locked time, the route flags the conflict so you can reassign the job or adjust the day.

Setting Start and End Addresses

On the Routes page, the timeline begins with a Start point and finishes with an End point. Use the pencil icon next to either one to set a custom address for that route.

The address form makes this quick:

  • Use company address – One click fills the form with your saved company address.
  • Address autocomplete – Start typing a street and pick from the suggestions to fill in the rest automatically.

You can also set a custom start time for the route here. Jeero uses it, together with each job’s estimated duration, to project the arrival and departure time for every stop.

Manual Reordering

Sometimes you know something the optimizer doesn’t – a job site near where the crew is grabbing lunch, for instance. Use drag-and-drop to reorder jobs manually in the route timeline. Jeero recalculates the drive times for your chosen order and marks the route Manually ordered.

If you change your mind, click Restore optimized order to revert to the last calculated route.

Tip: Use manual reordering for special circumstances, but let Jeero optimize the baseline. It factors in real driving distances that are hard to estimate by eye.

The Route Map

Each crew card on the dashboard includes a mini route map showing the day’s stops connected by the planned driving path. This gives dispatchers a quick visual overview of where each crew is headed.

The Routes page shows a larger version of the same map alongside the full timeline: the ordered stops, estimated drive time between each one, projected arrival and departure times, and the total distance and driving time for the day. Each stop also has a Navigate button that opens turn-by-turn directions in your phone’s maps app.
