What Is a Crew?

A crew is a group of workers led by a crew lead who travel and work together. Think of it as a team-within-a-team: a landscaping crew with a lead and two helpers, or a cleaning squad that handles commercial sites together.

Crews let you schedule and dispatch an entire group at once instead of assigning jobs to individuals one by one. Each crew is named automatically after its lead – for example, “Maria’s Crew.”

Creating a Crew

Go to Crews in the sidebar.
Click New Crew.
Choose a Crew Lead – start typing a name and pick from the list. Only team members with the Crew Lead role appear here, so set that role on the Team page first if no one shows up.
Add Members – search and select one or more workers to join the crew.
Leave Active turned on so the crew is available for scheduling.
Click Save.

The crew takes its name from the lead automatically, so there’s no separate name to fill in.

Tip: You can’t create a crew until at least one team member has the Crew Lead role. If the New Crew page sends you back with a notice, assign the role on the Team page first.

Assigning a Crew Lead

Every crew has exactly one crew lead, and each person can lead only one crew. The crew lead is the on-site point of contact who:

Sees the full crew schedule and job details
Updates job statuses on behalf of the crew
Communicates with the office about schedule changes

To change a crew’s lead, edit the crew from Crews and pick a different team member with the Crew Lead role.

Adding and Removing Members

You can adjust crew membership at any time. Edit the crew, then use the Members picker to search for and add workers, or remove a member by clicking the x next to their name. Save your changes when you’re done.

A worker can only belong to one crew at a time. If you try to add someone who’s already on another crew, reassign them instead (see below).

Moving a Member Between Crews

On the Crews list, each crew card shows its members as small tags. To move someone to a different crew, drag their tag from one crew card and drop it onto another. The worker is removed from their old crew and added to the new one in a single step – no need to edit both crews separately.

Note: You can’t drag a crew lead onto another crew. To change who leads a crew, edit the crew and pick a new lead instead.

Finding and Filtering Crews

The Crews list lets you:

Search by crew lead name to jump straight to the crew you need.
Filter by status to show only Active or Inactive crews.

Mark a crew Inactive (by turning off the Active toggle when editing) to keep it out of day-to-day scheduling without deleting it – useful for seasonal teams you’ll bring back later.

Crews on the Dashboard

On the Dashboard, the day’s work is grouped into crew cards. Each card shows the crew, its members, the jobs assigned for that day, and the crew’s route. You can step through dates and search to find a specific crew or job. This gives you a quick snapshot of who’s busy and who has capacity. See the Dashboard guide for the full breakdown.

Crews on the Schedule

On the Schedule page, jobs appear on the calendar labeled with the crew they’re assigned to, and you’ll find a route link for each crew so you can review or adjust that crew’s plan for the day. See the Scheduling guide for details.

Why Crews Matter for Route Optimization

When you build an optimized route for a crew, Jeero calculates a single route for the whole group rather than separate routes for each worker. This means:

Fewer vehicles on the road – the crew travels together, reducing fuel costs.
Smarter stop ordering – jobs are sequenced to minimize total drive time for one vehicle, not several.
Simpler logistics – one route to review and adjust instead of many.

Tip: If your crew splits up at certain job sites, assign those jobs to individual team members instead of the crew. Use crews for jobs where the whole team works together on-site.
